Grandma June’s Homemade Sugar Cookies
Who doesn’t have a fond memory of a dish or treat their mother or grandmother always made? Family recipes are a way to carry traditions and memories on throughout the years. Celebrating special moments with family and friends over a cherished family recipe is what makes those memories last. Laura, the Ginny’s Team Customer Service Liaison, shared a very special family recipe with us for our spring catalog! Enjoy!

Ingredients
½
cups butter
½
cups shortening
2
cups sugar
2
eggs
5
cups flour (divided)
1
tsp baking soda
2
tsp baking powder
1
cups milk (mixed with 2 t. vinegar)
1
tsp vanilla
1
tsp lemon extract
Preparation
Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs.
In a separate bowl, whisk together dry ingredients: flour, baking soda and baking powder.
Mix 2 cups of the dry ingredients into the butter and sugar. Add a little bit of the milk and vinegar mixture and a little bit of the remaining flour mixture to the batter, in batches, until ingredients are combined. Stir in vanilla and lemon extract. (it’s okay if the dough is sticky.)
Cover and chill in the fridge for 24 hours.
Preheat oven to 375° F. Flour counter and dough. Roll flour out to a 1/4″ thickness. Sprinkle with sugar. Cut out cookies (using a glass or cutter) and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 7 minutes. Do not let them brown. Enjoy!
