 2 qts apple cider or juice
 4 cinnamon sticks
 20 whole allspice
 15 whole cloves
 1 orange (sliced, but not peeled)
 ¼ cup brown sugar (add more or less to taste, depending on the cider/juice sugar content)
 1 tsp fresh ginger (minced and optional)
 1 anise star (optional)

Combine all ingredients in the slow cooker pot.

Cook on low for 4 hours or high for 2 hours, until flavors are well blended (and your kitchen smells like Christmas)!

Serve warm.
