Apple Cake

Preheat the oven according to cake mix box instructions.
Rub the cake pan with butter.
Peel and core the apples. Slice into wedges ¼" thick. Place apple wedges
on bottom of the buttered pan.
Pour the water over the apples. Sprinkle the apples with the sugar and
cinnamon.
Prepare the cake mix according to box instructions and pour the batter
over the apples.
Bake until the top of the cake is golden brown (25 minutes was perfect for
two 9" cake pans at 350°F). Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
