Harsh conditions make winter a test for the traveler. Here are some things you can do to be ready in case you're stranded:

• What's your favorite candy bar? Put a few in your glove box; they're a great food source if you get stranded in the cold.
• A rolled-up sleeping bag in the trunk takes up little space and is likely to keep you warmer than a blanket.
• To prevent frozen fuel lines (and not being able to start your engine), fill the gas tank when it drops below half full.
