Use our guide to buying Luxury Sheets and put your confusion to rest
Thread countOne of the critical factors in buying sheets, thread count refers to the number of horizontal and vertical yarns in one square inch of fabric. Higher thread counts (more than 200) generally produce softer, smoother and longer-lasting sheets. But thread count is not the only factor used when buying sheets. The ply, type of fiber and weave, also, are important.
PlySome sheet makers attempt to make their sheets more durable using a two-ply method (twisting two yarns together to form a thicker strand). But those sheets aren't as soft and silky as single-ply sheets. All of our luxury sheets are single-ply, and are durable thanks to higher thread counts.
FiberSheets come in a multitude of fabric choices, but we've focused on three for their exceptional characteristics.
- Cotton: More breathable, less likely to pill and less prone to stain than polyester; easier to care for than silk.
- Egyptian Cotton: Longer and stronger fibers produce a more durable sheet that actually gets softer and more luxurious with every washing.
- Bamboo: Drapes like silk and is even softer, stronger and more breathable than cotton. Fast-growing and eco-friendly (requiring no pesticides or fertilizers). Has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties.
ConstructionDifferent weaves impact the look, feel and value. A sateen weave has a lustrous sheen and satiny feel that increases its worth, while tone-on-tone stripes and other designs add style. Some sheets also undergo special treatments that make them more convenient.
